Running Survey

Hey there! Hope you all have had a lovely start to your week. My Monday was pretty good! Easy day at work followed by the Bachelorette with my lady friends. This season is the most ridiculous season ever. Those dramatic boys! Good grief!

Anyway, I thought we could have some fun with a nice survey this morning! Here goes.

Would you rather run along a beach path or on a mountain trail?

I think we all know I’m partial to my mountain trails.

If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?

I’m not a huge Gatorade fan. Typically at races I only take some Gatorade every other aid station and chase it down with water. But, if I had to choose, I guess I’d take Fruit Punch.

If I gave you a $100 gift card to a running store, what would be the first thing that you would purchase with it?

Shoes!!!!

Do you prefer to follow a training plan or wake up and decide then how far and how fast you want to run?

I generally have an idea of what my run/workout will consist of that day. I generally will adapt it if necessary…during winter training I’ll need to adapt depending on the amount of snow/frost on the ground. I’ll usually try to hit my planned mileage, however, regardless.

Would you rather start your run with the uphill and end on the downhill or start your run with the downhill and end with the uphill?

Uphill at the start, of course. Running downhill when you’re tired is the best!

When you can’t run, what type of cross-training do you choose to do?

Ugh. The worst. I’ll usually do some sort of strength training, yoga or pilates. Here you can see the exercises I did when I hurt my ankle.

What is your preference—>  Out and back, point to point or loop runs?

Ah, I usually alternate between out and backs and loops. My preference is a loop–it keeps things interesting the entire time, but out and backs happen more often than not (especially for long runs). They’re definitely the most convenient of runs!

If you could recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be a—>

Go get fitted for a pair of shoes. When I first started running I would buy cheap, on sale shoes from Big 5. I started to have a lot of trouble with my calves and finally went and got myself fitted for a decent pair of shoes! It changes your running. Go to a real running store, have someone watch the way you run; your gait, the way your foot strikes. Having a decent pair of shoes that is reflective of your running style will help IMMENSELY.

Do you ever see any wild animals while out on your runs?

Deer, rabbits, squirrels. All pretty common place! I had a friend run past a mountain lion and that scares the begeezus out of me!

Ever gotten lost while out on a run?

Yes. Oops.

lost

If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days… what would that meal be?

Um…calories don’t count? Pasta. Probably. And wine. And ice cream.

Capris or shorts… what do you run in most often?

Shorts. Generally, I’m either in shorts or in tights. I don’t tend to run in capris often.

At what mile (or how many minutes) into your run does your body start to feel like it is warming up and ready to go?

Usually about 1.5-2. I like the 2 mile rule. You go out for at least two miles, and if you still feel bad then you can turn around. Anything shorter than that and you’re not letting your body warm up appropriately.

What do you do with your key when you run?

Either on my shoelace, in my Spibelt, or in my pocket. Depending on what key I have and what I’m wearing.

If you could relive any race that you have done in the past, which one what it be?

The Phoenix Marathon this past February. It was tough and brutal and so painful, but I BQ and I learned a LOT about myself and racing a marathon in that race.

What type of run is your least favorite type of run?

Track workouts. I hate 800s and whatnot. I’d much rather run tempos, progressive runs or incorporate fartleks.

What has been your biggest motivation lately to get out the door to get your run on?

Uggh, I’ve been struggling. Right now it’s the beautiful weather and amazing trails. I’m getting spoiled and I’m a-ok with that.

long run 2

When you go for a run, do you leave right from your front door or do you drive somewhere to start?

Depends on the day. Usually, I’ll just run from home/work. I’m lucky to have access to great trails so near both those places. On weekends, I’ll generally drive somewhere to a different trail I don’t run too often.

When running in daylight—>  are sunglasses a must or an annoyance?

Always sunglasses!!! I hate not having them!

When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?

The knowledge that I’m getting stronger. I love running because you get out of it what you put into it. That 16 miler that was so hard? It makes 18 that much easier. Also, the promise of food.

Now your turn! Pick a question or two and answer in the comments below!

  1. OMG I love your “I’m lost” face! hehehehe!!

I’ve read a bunch of these surveys and so far I am apparently the only person who runs in capris. What gives! I love my capris.

I too would much prefer mountain trails although I don’t have access to either. I’m always so jealous of your run scenery! You should submit it to RW for their “rave run” section!

  2. I love these surveys… I’m all about the beach run. A cool ocean breeze makes everything more enjoyable… and being able to flop down in the water afterwards to cool off isn’t so bad either !

  3. Great survey! Here’s an answer to your driving vs running out your door question – I almost always drive somewhere to run. I live on a pretty main road so I try to avoid running on it all costs! Have a great day 🙂
